It has been observed that though the foreign fighters come from a number of different nations in the world, they share one thing which is common among them i.e. they travel to IS-Controlled areas via Turkey. This is because Turkey has the direct flight to more than 100 nations on one hand and on the other hand, it shares its borders with the Islamic owned nations. The government needs to implement strong measures to ensure that the people who are entering the country should be the IS based foreign fighters. There should be a strict scrutiny on all the people who come to Turkey from outside nations. The government should have a strict control and have the information about the stay of the foreigners, their arrival date and departure date. It must be ensured that the concerned person has a return ticket and also they must have a check on his or her activities after entering the nation. In addition to coming to Turkey directly, the foreign fighters utilize their broken flights so as to hide the final destination by stopping at multiple places while coming to turkey (Samit, 2014). In addition to this, the government hasn’t implemented any measures to abandon the transit of the goods to Syria with the help of the foreign fighters.
It has been observed that the foreign fighters are also taking illicit good with them to Syria. Turkey has been a member of NATO and has also been the leading member of the coalition working group which has worked with different foreign terrorist fighters but has failed to establish a complete and secure control over its borders. Turkey has declared that it needs the number of troops from America to secure its borders. There should be an assessment whether the same is implemented in a proper manner or not. In addition to this, the parts of the borders of Turkey can be secured with Sunni Arab and Turkmen Syrian forces (Borumand Fein, 2016). The nation has been getting consistent financial air and technological assistance from the West, but it is important that it must demonstrate steps to secure its borders.
