The meeting was in Chongqing. In the meeting the Communist party ends up signing an agreement with the Chaing Kai-shek from the KMT. The communist party sign the Double Tenth agreement. According to the agreement, both the parties are seen to concede that they would stop the civil war that is going on in the country. They make the choice to go for a multiparty government instead. However, in the following year it is shown in the movie that Chiang Kai-shek gets elected as the President of the Republic of China after a meeting that takes place in 1946 in Nanjing. With the peace negotiations failing at this point, the civil war agreement that both the KMT and the Communist party agreed upon is not challenged.

When watching the movie, one feels the movie invokes both a sensibility of the past history of China, and also makes the viewer appreciate the roots of communist China. In a comparison with the history of the making of Communist China that one gets to read in the history textbooks as part of a high school education, it can be said that the movie is not a complete event by event representation.
