The main aim of my research is to explain the idiosyncratic risk that was first documented by Ang, Hodrick and Zhang in 2006 who studied the negative effects at the firm between the idiosyncratic risks and the consequent returns. According to the conventional finance theory, idiosyncratic risks must be differentiated in a utilitarian investor’s view rather than being compensated by risk premiums. Contrarily, idiosyncratic risk is priced due to less diversified portfolios of investors, incomplete information or other market constraints. Theoretical studies of Ang, Hodrick and Zhang (2006) found stocks with higher Idiosyncratic risks underperformed than those with lower idiosyncratic risks( Fama and French, 1993). However, conventionally it is thought that investors who buy stocks in the higher risk are expected to yield higher returns. These results were found to be robust after controlling certain factors such as liquidity of stocks, size, book to market and momentum. My research paper targets at disintegrating the idiosyncratic risks into its components calculated from previous studies.

I will try to reason that the idiosyncratic risks belief does not essentially disrupt the theoretical predict mentioned above: “higher risk, higher return”, but I expect to determine that the price of these risks is positive. However, with the dominant effect of varied beliefs of investors, we observer anomaly related to these risks in the market. Some researchers employed econometric models such as EGARCH (Fu. F., 2009) in an attempt to solve the idiosyncratic risk anomaly. Other researchers such as Saryal (2009) used a more intuitive approach by providing month wise evidence that the idiosyncratic risk changes produce the results predicted by Ang, Hodrick and Zhang (2006). Saryal affirmed the direct relationship between the average returns and the idiosyncratic risks. Additionally, he also suggested that these changes were related to firm events by providing an economically rational indication that these risks and the returns are both event driven and calculated on basis of price fluctuation (Saryal, F.S, 2009). However, as the paper was based on coexistent information a trading strategy could not be established.

活动的基调是,玩具是为了好玩,激发孩子们的创造力(Lettoysbetoysorguk.2016)。 这项活动的目的是劝阻零售商向公众销售性别刻板印象(Lettoysbetoysorguk.2016)。

Reasons for choosing this campaign is that it reflects the underlying issues in the society and fosters a more productive society. Theoretical aspects and practical observations have been used in this analysis to develop the arguments.Let Toys Be Toys is a campaign that was initiated in an online discussion forum Mumsnet. The mood of the campaign is that toys are for fun and invoking creativity in children (Lettoysbetoysorguk.2016). Children should be given autonomy to choose and develop what toys interest them. Instead of retailers pushing their agenda to sell products, retailers use this tactics to segment the population and sell more of their toys. However, in reality they are curbing the creativity of the children by creating false gender stereo types. Purpose of this campaign is to ensure the retailers not to sell gender stereo types. Purpose of this campaign is to dissuade retailers from selling gender stereotypes to the public (Lettoysbetoysorguk.2016). This campaign matters because children should be able to decide what they think is fun. These campaigns and stereotypes put a limit to the play.

Playing is how children develop cognitive and reasoning ability and these agendas of the marketers impede the progress. Directing consumers and curbing creativity by fostering gender stereotypes would lead to creating of havoc in the societies. Toys are a reflection of the culture. In the Victorian era, boys were allowed to have a childhood and indulge in whatever they seemed fun. This was not the case with girls. They were subdued and forced to like being a mother and take care of the household activities. This was a reflection of the culture existing during those times (Messner, 2000). In current times, this has been reflected in the selling patterns of the companies towards the people. There is an intricate dynamic relationship that exists in the societies owing to these aspects (Kacen, 2000). This campaign had taken an effort to show what was inherently wrong in the culture. To further validate the theory of stereotyping toys, interviews were conducted outside a toy shop. It was found that the majority of people linked toys like Barbie to girls and G I Joe toys to that of the boys (Scanlon, 2000). Many people still purchased pink for new born girls. This reflected the need for the Let Toys be Toys campaign in the societies.

Today the most talked about language through which the whole world actually seems to connect itself is the Media and the old school concept of literacy which was just confined to reading and writing has lost its way somewhere way behind. The Media and its countless Medium now hold much impact in even shaping the cultural or literal aspects of any society and its people. The strong messages being sent and shared with people through radio, TV, internet, bill boards, newspaper and others are so simple yet so complex that the messages they share must be decoded and understood to get a wider perspective of any situation. And for that matter the Media Experts come in whose critical analysis helps them to better understand the issues being addressed (Creeber, Glen, Martin, & Royston, 2008).Media Education or Media Literacy isn’t a very old concept it gained its popularity in the early 1990’s amongst the English Speaking Nations. In the United States a group of Media Experts got together and defined it in a way to judge and analyze all the communication that they received through any kind of media.

It also developed a critical thinking of the students and helped them to make their own messages and grow their own opinion about what they see or hear (Smith, 2015).The more involved one is in the latest communication modes of the Media, the more successful he would be as being part of the society since he will be more alert and conscious of the stuff being driven into the minds of the people. The New Media Literacy also evoke an access to the media message analyze it assess it and come up with a meaning (Lin, Chen, & Chai, 2015).The “Inoculation Theory” by McGuire in 1964 argues how people can be made resistant to the media that tries its best to change their personality or attitudes. Banerjee and Greene in 2008 conducted various studies while following the same patterns of the theory and came up with interesting facts (Crano & Prislin, 2011).Austin and Johnson in 2002 argued that the decision making should also be stressed upon because it is the ability of the mind that watches and processes messages as they are shared (Johnson & Perlmutter, 2013).

In “Dracula”, story unfolds through a series of letters, diary entries and newspaper clippings. Events that occur are stated in a chronological order between England and Transylvania (Stoker, 1897). Dracula assumes Mina to be the reincarnate of his lover. Originally he becomes a Dracula in hopes of living with his lover who had committed suicide and is living a life of the damned. On seeing Mina, Dracula assumes Mina to be the human form of his lover (Stoker, 1897). The Dracula kills Jonathan Harker because he is engaged to Mina. Dracula wants to live with his supposed girlfriend throughout eternity. Lucy is a close friend of Mina who is seduced by Dracula in hopes of reaching to Mina. He does succeed in transforming Lucy into a bloodthirsty vampire. Van Helsing and team find out the underlying causes of Lucy’s condition and eventually kills her. Futile efforts are undertaken by Dracula to convert Mina for eternal damnation. In the end the Dracula is killed and Mina is released from the curse of the Vampire (Stoker, 1897). Initially it might seem that it is not a continuous storyline. Initially journal entry of Harker the lawyer is discussed.

He explains to the audience the background of Transylvania and also discusses in detail about the allure and the obvious danger of the place (Stoker 1897, pp. 11) . The exploits of Dracula and his inherent confusion have been clearly elucidated. This resonates with the initial confusion and adds to the suspense of the story line for the audience. Nevertheless during the course of reading the novel the readers can understand the story from a comprehensive perspective. This is an added advantage for this novel. There is an unsettling and discomforting sentiment that needs to be maintained in the story line without alienating the audience (Stoker, 1897). There is a suspense that the author was able to maintain throughout the story line. Narrative style of story telling also adds to this development of a strong story line. There is a combination of illusion and realism in the story that intrigues the audience. Audiences actually waits with baited breath as to how the story would unfold. The story has a sense of realism and rational reasoning that should be maintained to captivate the audience. Stoker has attempted this aspect from presenting multiple perspectives.

The word fashion is mainly associated with clothing and garments. One cannot but deny that this word is something that is used in everyday life and by almost everyone who goes out to the market to buy something to wear. We use this term to describe something which might be popular amongst the people and might be a kind of clothing which is being worn by the number of people of the said area, and at the same time this might be something which we might have noticed going viral on social media. Very often the sentences like ‘this thing is in fashion’ have been heard by one and by all. Thus in simple words one can say is fashion is nothing but a popular style or a trend amongst the people, a practice which can be overtly associated with clothing, accessories, bags and caps, footwear, makeup and maybe furniture too. It is the trend and the style which has been habitual by a person or group of people, which is nothing but the way they dress. Thus everything that one wears in order to present according to the current trend of the respective place is fashion. It includes the different styles which have already been created by respective designers and also the new ones which are trending or are in on-going processes.

Though initially it was thought the terms ‘costumes’ and ‘fashion’ could be used synonymously, the former has been disregarded in this matter owing to its usage in association to fancy dresses and masquerades(Fletcher, 2008). Thus fashion in today’s world is clearly associated with garments and clothing and accessories of these kinds, which are available for both men and women, as the trends can be feminine or masculine or simply androgynous. Nevertheless along with the mentioned objects fashion also incorporates within itself the study of the garments, clothing, trends and everything else which fashion defines. Now that one gets a clear idea about what fashion actually is, one also needs to understand that there is a very important question which has been circulating and thus often becomes the point of discussion amongst the people who are considered to be men of the fashion industry and the question is that ‘Can Fashion be Sustainable?’. Sustainability though is a concept very complex in nature, but simply in general refers to any kind of development which takes place without depleting its resources.

The Great Exhibition was the first industrial fair being organized by the British at an international level in the year 1851 (Purbrick, 2008). The entire exhibition was housed within a massive structure entirely made up of iron and glass. It is said that the structure was built to pay a tribute to the engineering skills of Britain (Defoe, 2005). The structure is known in the history of Britain as the Crystal Palace which covered an area of 19 acres and housed around 100, 000 exhibits that represented extensive assortments of products, which were created during the time of Industrial Revolution of Britain. Within a span of six months more than 6 million people visited the fair (Mayhew, 2010). Majority of the visitors travelled to London by train and foreign visitors were in majority. The event displayed wealth of Britain to the world; it was a very prominent and huge symbol of success among the British. Trees were also displayed with the Crystal palace to symbolize that Industrial revolution had domination over nature (Defoe, 2005; Mayhew, 2010). While describing the Great Exhibition Prince Albert, Husband of Queen Victoria mentioned that:“Man is approaching a more complete fulfilment of that great and sacred mission which he has perform in this world…………to conquer nature to his use” (Purbrick, 2008).

By the end of the year 1851, Britain became the richest industrial country around the globe. Half of the world’s coal and manufactured goods were produced in Britain. The cotton produced by the industries in Britain was as equal to the quantities of total cotton goods produced by all the other countries of Europe taken together. Britain was producing three times in the year 1851 compared to what it used to produce in the year 1780. Thus, Britain was running faster towards the success of its material story (Purbrick, 2008; Mayhew, 2010). The Crystal palace where the Great Exhibition was showcased was made up of cast iron and plate glass structure. The design was conceptualized by Joseph Paxton and the structure was 1,851 feet (564 metre) in length and had an interior height of around 128 feet (39 metre). In the year 1848, the invention of cast plate glass process made it possible to produce large glass sheets at a cheaper price, but the strength was good. It had been used to create such a massive glass structure in the form of a building was the greatest amusement for the visitors.

The film selected for the paper is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, 2005 version, which depicts food consumption patterns of families and the role played by social and economic factors, thus constituting the focal point for the paper. The food consumption patterns in a family are guided by the consumption habits of the adults in the family. In addition to this, the economic position of the family in the society determines the ability of the household to gain access to the food items. The movie shows a poverty ridden family to which Charlie belongs and the experiences of Charlie during the course of the trip to the factory of Willy Wonka, the famous chocolate manufacturer. There is one scene in particular that provides insight into the way, poor food planning system creates issues for the households living in poverty and economic disadvantage. The scenario shows that after Charlie’s father was laid off from the work, Charlie’s mother was upset as he was the only source of income for the household and it meant that she would have to make further adjustment to the already meagre food stock they could access. During the course, it has been discussed how the poorly structured food supply system can be a source of difficulty for the under privileged households. Pothukuchi and Kaufman (2000) have elaborated that the establishment of food management entities doesn’t guarantee bringing any improvement in the overall supply process of the food items from the producers to the consumers.

The current food planning system benefits the people who can afford to visit the retail stores, while the people with a disadvantaged background continue to struggle with gaining access to quality food, and in some cases to fulfil the basic food necessities. As shown in the film, unemployment can exert negative influence on the food affordability, which would require the people to cut down their food related expenses. Steel (2013) has outlined how the supply of food in a region doesn’t necessarily mean that all the households in the area can easily gain access to the food items. The financial position plays a central role in determining the capability to purchase different food items. The case of London after the demise of Queen Victoria has been used to illustrate this point, as the scarcity of food wasn’t an issue at that time. However a significantly large proportion of the population (more than 97%) were not in a position to purchase the food items, thus reflecting wide scale poverty. The movie has also outlined that despite the supply of the chocolate on a large scale, Charlie’s family could only afford to buy the chocolate once a year. Pothukuchi and Kaufman (2000) have corroborated this notion and argued that the lack of focus on the proper supply of food in terms of providing access to those living in poverty has been largely overlooked. Even though food consumption constitutes one of the essential needs of the human existence, the food planners have not been able to focus on this area.

The real characteristics of the economic dependence of China on exports have been embedded in the impediments of the export sector’s appropriate measure. The analysts and the government usually use the total exports as the GDP growth’s share. This measure is indicative of the fact that there is accountability of the export growth. This export growth of China since 1990, accounted for almost real GDP’s total growth’s 40 percent, which increased since 2000, to almost 60 percent. This numbers certainly portrayed a growing and dominant role of the exports. However, the export figures are at odds with China’s escaping the global meltdown in 2009-09, which was accomplished only by a few nations. The global meltdown was a foremost economic slowdown and the fact that the export oriented economy like China escaped it, indicates towards an important role played by the internal growth. That is one reason that an alternative measure has been used by the economists: net exports’ growth (the difference between the total exports and the total imports) as GDP growth’s share. This alternative metrics shows the contribution of exports have been 10-20 percent of the 10 percent growth rate China achieved over the past few years.

It can be contended that both measures misleads. The total exports have been neglecting the fact several export shipments of China is inclusive of reassembled imported goods in conjunction, with domestic content or the content undergoing modification before the export. The failure of removal of these exports from the figures of total exports has the overstatement with regards to export value that has contribution to the GDP (Keidel, 2007). This is because there are several exports that have not being assembled and exported, but have been sold to the businesses and consumers of China. A measure called domestic value-added exports (DVAE) has been calculated for accessing the export’s role more accurately in the growth of GDP. DVAE is calculated as the difference of total exports and the imports of the service and goods’ production that have been exported subsequently. For instance, in automobiles, there has been no subtraction of the finished imports from the exports of this new measure. However, subtraction will be carried out with respect to the imported engine parts in manufacturing motor bikes for exports.
