So, in order to get the best of present resources we have to keep in mind a strategy or plan that would enable us to perform efficiently and also help us in increasing our customer strength. Hence we can see the theory working but with proper strategies. Our main task is to align our processes and resources in a way that would definitely brighter prospects (Singh 1999). According to this we have to find a way to manage our employees, our functions, our procedures, our techniques in order to obtain our goal for customer satisfaction and productivity. One such way to improve productivity is the manufacturing oriented productivity concept. According to this theory the manufacturing oriented approach towards productivity does not suit all sorts of business and has to be quiet careful in picking the right method (Croome, 2000). This process is quiet suitable for manufacturing firms which we also call closed systems where the customer – provider interaction in minimal. Closed systems are businesses which have very little interaction with the customers like telecom companies. Closed systems can be satisfied with this sort of planning as this would lead to the strengthening of the infrastructure. So, in this way the customers would be quiet happy to witness such development and productivity will consequently increase.
In the case of hospitality businesses we have a lot of interaction with our customers and manufacturing oriented productivity will not suit our business. Although it would be great idea to perform some reforms in the infrastructure and processing line but the ultimate customer satisfaction cannot be influenced through these actions and we would require other methods. After all, what good is a productivity strategy if it does not give economical benefit? So all this comes down to the question which kind of business is being addressed and what are we using to deal with it (Sink 1985). When we speak of productivity we wish to know actually is productivity. Productivity is basically the efficiency of any business so more or less we could term it as the ratio of the input and output of any business.
