The history was made when CCTV-9 entered the US market on 1 January 2003. Certain tie ups were seen which included AOL, Time Warner, and News Corporation being the organization which was allowed to access the respective systems in Guangdong. At this point of time CCTV-9 covered mostly the news in English, cultural shows and the nights were used for rerunning of programs. But one of the major steps by this channel was covering the telecast of 2008 Beijing Olympics.Till April 2009 this channel was a mixed one showing various shows and news but on the 26th of the same month it was re-launched under the name of ‘CCTV News’ and was a ‘24-hour English-language news service’ channel, and the major projects that it undertook then was covering the after effects of ‘Mushu County earthquake’ and the opening of the ‘2010 Shanghai World Expo.’ After this the channel tried to maintain a balance between the channels it was broadcasting and the kind of news that it was showing to the audience within its territorial domain and outside China.
