Both the tourism industry and the value of the household and the residential property will suffer because of any issue that might arise in the increased tanker traffic. The increased tanker traffic by itself could lead to issues moreover. Spills in the form of accidents could lead to disruption in the form of use of the waterfront and the beach.
If per chance there was an oil spill and the port closes (this would be one of the risks of having the tankers run from field to port), then there would be losses to the Canadian economy in the amount of $20-million a day (Hume, 2014).
