Although I own these three key skills, I have few weaknesses as well in which I need to work hard. Firstly, I lack public speaking skills and hence I hesitate while doing the presentation in front of the class. My supervisor had trusted me so much but I was not able to present the project well. Hence, I need to work on my public speaking skills in order to be highly confident. Secondly, I need to work on my English skills and make sure my language is fluent. Although English is my native language, I hesitate sometimes to speak it in front of people. This is a limitation which requires to be coped with effectively. Thirdly, I get panicked in a few situations due to which I am unable to lead my team well. In one such instance, one of teammates got ill and did not attend the presentation. This made me highly upset and in spite of looking for a solution, I was in a state of panic. As per Al Ariss (2010), a manager must be competent enough to handle situations really well without any panic and fear. Hence, I need to inculcate this quality within me and ensure that I cope with situations well. These are the strengths and weaknesses that I acquire.
Although strengths do not require much improvement, there are areas such as public speaking, language fluency and coping with odd situations where I need to work hard. As per the assessment above, it is required that I work in three areas such as public speaking, language fluency and coping with odd situations in order to acquire the managerial competency. As per Bierer and Chen (2010), public speaking is one of the critical traits of a manager and he is required to be confident enough to engage the audience. Also, language fluency is another important managerial skill and hence needed to be mastered by me effectively. A manager is the mediator between management and the executives, so he must be competent enough to handle every situation with confidence. In order to change the behavior and work on these skills, it is critical to develop SMART goals. As per Savickas (2003), it is crucial for a leader to determine his competencies. In order to achieve positive self-regard, determining the strengths and weaknesses is the first step. Since an effective leader makes best efforts to learn skills, components such as knowledge and understanding of the tasks, skills and competency to communicate and build teams are critical (Ensher, Heun, and Blanchard, 2003). Considering the personal assessment above, the goals and strategies to be adopted to work on the weaknesses are given below.
