Niche tourism characterizes ways and diversity of making a change in a globalizing world of increasing sameness. It is recent years that the idea of ‘niche tourism’ has occurred in counter-point to what is usually known as a ‘mass tourism’. More refined set of approaches are implied by niche tourism which differentiates and distinguish tourists. It is on the disapproving implications that it works on which has resulted in the development of package and mass tourism and the adverseeffects associated with the same on social-cultural disturbance and environmental degradation (Jacobsen 2003). The approach of niche tourism seems to render greater opportunities and tourism for destination planner and managers who seek to utilize tourism as a means for development of economy and which is less damaging, more sustainable and also has to capacity to deliver tourists which are ready to spend more. This kind of tourism seems to provide a different kind of knowledge for tourist in such a way that helps them to gain knowledge which meets their wants and needs.
It is to the notion of mass consumption and production that the common features of contemporary or mass international tourism continue to associate. In case of mass tourism, it tends to place tourism as a feature of modernism; an occurrence which has taken some of the features of what is mostly known as Fordist economies. With any precision the term ‘mass tourism’ is difficult to define however it was very obvious that the over the past 40 years the development of tourism could be seen by the growth and development in agglomerations of hotel developments, tourist resorts, large aircraft, growth in the number of attraction intended for a huge number of visitors, general expansion of infrastructure and moreover a rise in the air traffic (Robinson 2003). Despite recent lulls in the global travel, the term mass travel is equated with magnitude and in the long-term predictions the forecasts are usually unanimous about the increased volumes of touristic activity.
