Low culture as it lacks in maintaining the structures of class, power, control and elite issues. Cultural worth is left unchecked. It lays emphasis on morality but not on individual and family problems. It is limited to traditional values and takes long time to adapt to new value systems. The responsibility of updating knowledge depends on the listener and not on the society at large. It is a manufacturer of the society and any loopholes in it will surely affect the society. Culture is multi dimensional so sometimes the situation of conflicts arises because of differences in believes among its members. Sometimes the custodian of culture because of their rigid ethics disrupts the peace of society. Respect for different cultures should be promoted then only society will flourish. Culture can be a problem for society because of the ideas, beliefs dominates the perception of the individuals. Culture when dominated by material things adversely affects the society.
Adorno’ says that Culture is based on the values, ideas and beliefs formed by elite classes and they dominate the society so it reduces the ability of masses to think qualitatively and take prompt decisions. He saw mass culture from its radical view, which highlights the crucial significance of media in forming social consciousness and providing the limits of social change under capitalism.
Reasons to consider masses as Cultural dupes: Adorno believed culture had negative critical force till it provides a “utopian” (an unrealistic belief of things to be changed more than possible) alternative to existing society. He said that under mass culture, traditional art had failed to maintain its autonomy and there is monopolization of elite classes by forcing their ideologies to be followed by masses which make them cultural dupes.
