Strategic planning forms the basis of sustainability and growth for any organization. The top management or the board of directors in an organization decides on the business strategies that they would like to implement in the organization for its smooth functioning. However this is not the case with Harrods.
A Harrods, not only the human resource department is made a part of the strategic planning and implementation process, but an equal opportunity or chance it given to the employees as well so that the company could come up with the best possible policies that would act as a win – win situation for the organization as well as for the employees.
For example, some 9 to 10 years back, Harrods stated conducting ‘comprehensive employee surveys’. These surveys contained questions related to the preferences of the employees in terms of the leadership style that they want in the organization, the organizational structure which they would like to see in place, etc. After the human resource department received the responses regarding the same from the employees, they held discussions and meeting with the top management and finally brought about changes in the organizations that the employees wanted.
Till date Harrods has successfully conducted 4 surveys to know about the thoughts and perceptions of their employees regarding the organizational policies and structure so that the former could take actions accordingly.
