The situation occurred at one of my previous organizations. I had been working with the organization for almost two years. I was working on the project and new manager had joined about a month. After getting acquainted with the work environment, the manager asked me to prepare a report based on one of the modules in the project. I spent two long weeks in researching and writing the report that was requested by the new manager. The report was presented by the manager in one of the staff meetings. I was stunned. On the first page itself I saw the name of the manager as author of the report. My name was nowhere on the report. Since my efforts were not recognised, I felt demotivated. There were number of questions going on in my mind which made me uncomfortable like- why my name wasn’t on the report. Will my efforts be recognized ever or will this become trend for future tasks as well. In order to take immediate action on this issue and discuss the matter the meeting was appointed with the new manager. It is very important to know, in order to understand the conflict management in this case; the manager was ready for the meeting immediately (Raver et al, 2013).
This report discusses the steps that have been followed in managing the conflict that arisen between the subordinate and the manager and what steps have been taken to manage this conflict. The factors that influenced the nature of the conflict and the way in which it affected the behaviour of the parties involved has been discussed in the next section supported by the literature on conflict management.
