Joseph Haydn was born in the year 1732 in Rohrau village which was there at the border. He spent his early life in the village itself. Though his parents were never interested in music, he was an enthusiast musician. In his childhood, his parents often used to encourage him to sing. But they realized that their child can’t learn music properly in the village. Therefore, at the age of six, they send him to Hainburg to learn music from a tutor Frankh. After this, he left his home forever. He had to face a number of difficulties in the initial part of his life as he was kept hungry and was also humiliated because of his filthy clothes. However, he continued to learn with great zeal and enthusiasm (Lang, 1957). Within a small time he learned to play harpsichord and violin. He used to play treble parts in the church choir. In 1739, he was brought to Vienna as he passed his audition with the Reutter. In Vienna he worked for the next nine years as a chorister IN St. Stephen’s.

In Vienna, he used to live next to the cathedral along with Reutter and his family. There he learned a lot as St. Stephen’s was one of the greatest music centers of Europe. However, his tough times still continued. In St. Stephen’s, he was motivated to sing well with an hope that he will get more invitations to perform in front of some of the aristocratic audiences where the refreshments were served for the people. After 1949, Haydn was removed from St. Stephen’s after he intentionally snipped out the pigtail of the chorister. He then worked in different jobs such as a music teacher, a street serenade and an accompanist for Italian Composer Nicola Porpora from whom he had later learned the true fundamentals related to the music composition. It was with him when he learned the actual fundamentals for composition. Haydn didn’t receive any kind of formal training as a chorister. In order to learn the same, he used to the exercises in the text Gradus ad Parnassum.
