Plot and historical background of film
The Artist is an initiative to pay homage to the lost yet valuable silent films. According to the director, the movie is a classical cliché that can never be reproduced or thought of again. The plot of the movie is presented below.
It is 1927 when everyone geared up for the debut movie Russian Affair by George Valentin. George also finds his favourite dog in the location. He accidentally meets Peppy at the red carpet when her pocket note has fallen (Bradshaw, 2011). This eventually made her to end up in camera along with George though it was not planned. George’s chagrin had desperately wanted to know who the girl is. Once again, both Peppy and George meet for a shoot when she seeks his help to appease Zimmer. It is a movie titled A German affair. This opportunity developed their communication and they fell for each other with the beauty mark that he left on Peppy’s cheek. The problem emerges when Peppy’s market is high and George’s at an all low level which left him in pain. Zimmer explains about the concept of sound movies to George, but he still finds it difficult to assimilate as his mental state does not allow him to concentrate or utter even a word to other. He then lives in a world of depression and desperation.
To handle this issue, George comes forward to star in his silent film just on the same day when new talkie of Peppy was getting launched. A line of wrong events happen on the same day for George. As he is still depressed, she searches for an opportunity to meet him and buys his prized possessions in the local auction. Although he had taken suicidal attempts, it was his dog who rescued and Peppy then reunites with him and their love story kick-starts again (Bradshaw, 2011). She requests for chances for George to the studio and Zimmer. The movie ends with the duet dance by both of them and the music at the end has rather left Zimmer satisfied with his addiction towards sound systems and technologies. George utters his word for the first time towards the end of the movie. The scenes end by the year 1932.
