Examples of flow in daily life:
1)Flow in education: According to Csikszentmihalyi, when one over learn a concept or skill it can help him to experience flow.
2)Flow in sports: When one engage in a challenging athletic activity which is achievable but he has to stress his abilities, he is actually experiencing flow.
3)In workplace: When one is completely focus and engaged in doing any task, for example a content developer writing a piece of writing for the company’s website.
4)At home: By using old stuff at one’s home, he makes new and innovative things create flow.
Other examples of “flow activities” can include games, travelling, artistic work, stage/TV performances and religious duties, but Csikszentmihalyi observed that people appear to gain more flow from their work on their jobs rather than doing leisure activities and usually those jobs require complete attention like programming and surgery (Cherry 2014)
How is flow related to Art:
Flow can also be achieved by art making. An artist who has been contributing endless hours on his masterpiece is experiencing a state of flow. According to Steven Budden, speaker & author and the founder of Flow Healing Arts, when doing creative work he also enters the flow state. And usually his goals are not clear but this openness and awareness assists in creating flow. It seems that people are forgetting themselves for that moment and stepping in that moment. (Flow Healing Arts 2014)
Flow captures an artist’s mind, letting them focus on only what is in front of them at the present moment and making them determine that they will be able to finish the task. Being zoned or in the flow doesn’t always needs to be recognized. In case one recognizes it, it doesn’t need to be concentrated upon. Artists usually lose track of time and are lost in their pieces of work. Especially when the painters are painting they only focus on their imaginations or any piece that they are painting. Regardless of day or night, they enjoy working. People only get a sense of satisfaction when their painting is complete. Listening to music while painting makes some painters more indulged in their work. They don’t get distracted even if someone talks to them or any disturbance in their environment occurs. Neglecting everything and achieving the best results is the goal of an artist.
