They shoot balls into baskets, run around playing children’s games, hit a ball back and forth, and run down the field. Their main motive is to entertain people and that is the sole reason they indulge into such activities. The main motive is to make money by attracting more and more fans by the players of that team. Now it is all about popularity and not at all about the skills level of players. Most athletes work hard for few months out the year; but in the free time, they prefer to party and in a few cases gets into trouble. Their rude and unprofessional behavior in these cases could be regarded to the high salaries being paid to them. Some people think that the salaries got by players are explainable due to the high risk of injuries. According to some people, athletes need to be paid high because of the fact that they entertain people and some of the players really play a number of games, which increases the probability of injury to their body. If a fan buys an expensive ticket for the game, it is only then that the athletes can be paid a higher amount. If the price of the tickets were lowered, it would mean that the amount being paid to the athletes would automatically reduce. There is a relation between the price of tickets and salary of athletes.
If looking from the economic perspective, it could be said that the utility to the consumers would rise substantially due to the lower ticket price, which could only be achieved by lowering the salaries of the professional athletes. It has been observed that, so as to prevent professional players to go on strikes, they are usually paid high salaries. A professional player has a career until the age of 30-40 years old, and during that time, they do not have a proper job as they can be laid off at any time. Therefore, in order to be financially secure, they charge high and save a lot of money for the future so that they do not have to work for the rest of their life once they retire from the game. Some professional athletes are a part of the team with the sole motive of attracting more fans and bring more revenue to the team. Since athletes do not work for even half of the year, they should not be paid such a high amount; therefore, the professional league should drop their salaries to average salaries (Leeds and Kowalewski, 2001). Thinking economically, instead of paying too much to the players, the money could be used in an education system, paying teachers more or to those people who help in the betterment to the society like police officers, firefighter, etc. who actually deserves more salaries for the amount of effort they put in.
