Fashion is everywhere as every individual can be seen stumbling across different forms of fashion, such as interior design, cars, jewellery, accessories, clothing and even ideology like the values of Green Effect. It was mentioned in an article by Dichter (1985) that fashion began as humans started using fig leaf.Since then, the psychology of fashion is prominent enough since then. He believes in two aspects of psychology when considering fashion that are life and discovery. When something new is tried, one feels fresh or different. Fashion expedites in the same way. In consideration with life, fashion makes a large population, men, women, kids and elder people feel good about themselves. Fashion successfully fulfils this role by groceries, cosmetics, clothes and commodities and hence has been enjoying success all across the globe (Martin 1995).
Under this scope, Japan has started to create new trends of fashion such as high- tech, extreme street fashion, anime and manga products, an adoption of these have been done across western area as well (Kim 2004). This helps in providing a biased perception about the trends and fashion of Japan as these factors can only be considered as some reality. The aim of this research focuses on examining the following: (1) Howdoes the fashion of Japan established its reputation and competitive edge all across the globe? (2) How is the European fashion influenced by the Japanese fashion? (3) What position is held by Japanese designers across the globe and what do they influence the fashion industry across the globe? (4) How diversified is the fashion of Japan?
Position of Japanese Designers and Impact on Global Fashion Industry
Issey Miyake had a prominent presence in the fashion industry of Europe, along with the emerging success stories of Yohji Yamamoto and ReiKawakubo, resulted in enhancing the phenomenon of fashion as identified under the avant garde of Japan. It is an ironic thought that in their scope to transcend long held notions of elegance, the strategies of designing by these emerging designers ended up casting a completely different definition. The key basis of this beauty was strength and independence. As the Fall or Winter collection of Yamamoto in the year 1982 was reviewed, and she was deemed to be successful as she created a fusion of oldest and the newest fashion senses maintaining a high standard for women and an amazing personalized vision.
The key force driving the career of Kawakubo within the fashion field was innovation. Inevitably, this particular artistic philosophy turned out to be a positive acknowledgment about the western population, as some were impressed by the intellectual approach and the intricate construction approach for designing the garments as evidently as possible. What previously seemed to be aragged look, on being inspected closely, it was a fully calculated choice of design. There is huge significance of aesthetic factors in the collections of Japan. It is also considered as a hidden pocket across an unexpected location in cutouts or clothes of Yohji Yamamoto. The employment of this is done for giving textural touch in the clothes of Kawakubo.
