A demographic decline is present when it comes to higher education enrolment in Chinese institutions. There is a noted decline in the number of students that enrol to take up the college entrance examinations. Most Universities in the wake of this decline are becoming competitive in order to meet the strengths needed to run a full time course or class session. Universities at present are even seen to be competing in fraudulent ways in order to increase the number of student intake. This trend has already been noted in some of Asia’s other nations, such as Japan, Singapore and Korea. With Japan noting a decline since 1993, and South Korea since 2003, Chinese institutions are now worried about how the trend would affect their long term prospects and economy.  This study presents a critical analysis of the deficiencies of the enrolment system for Higher education in China. The essay focuses on more current trends in the years of 2011-2014. The research for the essay is conducted by means of secondary research approach, by analyzing existing literature evidence critiquing the deficiencies of enrolment system and their impact on Chinese higher education. The purpose of the research essay is to create an awareness of the ways to improve the current admission criteria so as to increase enrolment for the future.
