The Shangri-La is in the hotels and resorts business and is as old as the Hyatt, inception in 1971. It is a Hong Kong based Hotel and has more than 85 hotels and resorts in Asia Pacific, North America, Middle East, Europe and Australia (Shangri-La, 2015).
Advantages: The advantages of the Shangri La are that it is in the resort and the hotel business and as such is capable of offering much product and service diversity to its customers. It has both hotels and collaborative resorts in Australia with the Hotel Jen Group.
Disadvantage: Shangri-La has only two hotels in Australia under its name brand which are the Shangri-La at the Marian in Cairns and the one at Sydney. On the other hand the Hyatt has more locations within Australia, as both an independent brand and in collaborative ventures.
The Marriott International founded in 1927 is in the International Hotelier business for longer than the Hyatt. It offers a full range of hotel services and also partners up with the community golfing centers to offer golf services to its patrons.
Advantages: There are as many as six Marriott Hotels in Australia and these hotels are all fully equipped (Marriott, 2015). The Marriott offers international loyalty programs for its more regular customers. It is also more economical in pricing when compared to the Shangri-La and the Hyatt.
Disadvantages: The Marriott is a classical hotel, but as such might not be able to compete with the Hyatt which is more vintages oriented in its themes.
Thorngrove Manor is a unique set of luxury hotels which are much smaller in size compared to the Mariott and the Shangri La. This is a hotel situated in Adelaide, Australia (Thorngrove, 2015).
