Other than the health consequences it has on the individuals, who consume them, there have been cases in the past where the individuals involved in the production of Coca-Cola have faced certain issues. In United States, Coca-Cola Company came into agreement to pay a hefty fine of about 192.5 million dollars in November 2000 so as to settle class action racial discrimination lawsuit. In addition, the company agreed to change the manner in which the minority was being promoted, managed and treated in the company. It was in the year 2003 that in an annual meeting of Coca Cola protestors claimed that there was underrepresentation of the black people in the company’s top management. Another issue was that the salary paid to the black employees was way too less than the salaries paid to the white employees. Another study has shown that, after this case was settled of racial discrimination in the company, the company was forced to put in practices of management which has resulted in putting the company in the top list in terms of diversity.
There was an issue about the practices of bottling which was filed by the shareholders of the company and they were of the demand that the firm must adopt a code of conduct for the same. The issues were seen in Colombia, however there was demand that high standards must be set for the bottlers, suppliers and vendors. Support for the same was received from union of Guatemala, Colombia, The Philippines, Zimbabwe and The United States.
Thus, we see that there are several impacts associated with both health and society. The company has taken measures to curb of the issue which came up related to racial discrimination which impacted the workers. However, in terms of impacts which it has on the health of the consumer; the firm tries to warn the people through advertisement as to the adverse impacts of the same in their health by telling about the ingredients of the product.
