The above is a picture from cosmopolitan. The representation of the woman in media shows confidence (Gill, 2007). Confidence is reflected from how the body is decorated, her clothing, her jewellery etc. Feminism and the deliverance from binders are in face shown by women or portrayed by the media through the props on the body.
Bodily experiences of men and women differ in some ways and are the same in others. The criticism on Foucault has been on that he has neglected to examine the gendered relationships on disciplining the docile body (King, 2004). Sexual representations of men and women differ. The above picture shows how bodily representation of the women is ornamented. The heavy ornamentation and the use of dresses that are clearly richer than the average middle class person is a powerful representation. However the same ornamentation technique might not work on man. Foucault’s body subjected to disciplining is said to be in the grip of very strict institutions that has subjected the body to prohibitions and constraints in its remodeling of power (Marome, 2005). The remodeling in today’s age is different for men and women. Foucault talks of the soldier, the straight back and more. These are purely masculine traits that have been carried till the present century. Women have also been trained to sit up, stand straight, and imitate the posture to represent power. These bodily transformations are similar, however not all are.
