Surrealism was a philosophical and literary movement that was initiated by Andre Breton, which became an art movement. It was also the major and last art movement, which was associated with Ecole de Paris. From there it spread through Europe and became one of the influential art form. The prior Dadaist movement completely rejected the rationality of the society and was the form that was entirely irrational. Surrealism was the art form that responded to the shortcoming of the Dada and combined the thoughts of conscious and unconscious of mind to form impossible hitherto art form. Charles Milliard had stated about the movement that “Surrealism constantly sought to make art of life and to make of life an art.”Andre Breton who is also known as the “Pop of Surrealism” was the chief theorist and the founder of the movement. Surrealism was firstly initiated through literature and then through paintings. He defined this new art form in 1924 in his Manifesto “Manifeste du Surrealisme” and later the bulletin of his paintings that was named as “Surrealisme et la Peinture”. René Magritte was one of the famous surreal artists who had created many wonderful paintings. He was famous for challenging his observers with his incredible art.
